Healthy relationships based on mutual respect require a level of self-esteem and confidence. The ability to empathise and accept others without judgement is appealing and draws people to you. When you are self-obsessed and critical of yourself then it is challenging to convey an attitude of compassion to others. Ingratiating yourself or refusing to acknowledge your emotions are equally unproductive states. Learning to develop self-awareness and acceptance brings out your true self. When you are genuine and authentic then relationships with others come naturally. A defensive or ingratiating attitude may be covering up feelings of inadequacy, shame or unworthiness. This behaviour may trigger mistrust and confusion. Remembering that every action has a reaction will prompt you to take actions that will ensure you achieve your desired outcome. So you act your way into right thinking. Taking positive actions builds self-esteem, boosts confidence and is very engaging. Unsociable behaviours such as drinking too much, always having the last word or speaking loudly surely have a negative impact on your interactions with others. They create tension or cause relationships to breakdown altogether. Saying sorry but not changing your behaviour only tends to exacerbate the situation. Role playing techniques will help you to find an inner strength and assertiveness. You will learn to take positive actions develop the attitudes, behaviours and skills that will enable you to be successful in your life and have positive healthy relationships. |
